Detailed History
NEMA was founded in 1926 from the merger of the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies and the Electric Power Club. The goal was to provide a common voice and standards for the rapidly growing electrical manufacturing industry. NEMA’s early work focused on standardizing electrical components to make manufacturing more efficient and products safer for consumers. The organization has been a key player in the development of standards for new technologies, including smart grid infrastructure and electric vehicles.
