Who They Are & What They Create
Danish Standards (DS) is the national standardization organization of Denmark. It is a non-profit commercial foundation whose profits are reinvested into developing new activities that benefit Danish society and the corporate sector.
DS serves as the central body for standardization in Denmark, with its primary function being to coordinate, develop, and publish national, European, and international standards.
Standards and International Cooperation
Danish Standards is the official representative for Denmark in the major international and European standardization organizations. Its core work involves implementing these global standards for use in Denmark.
DS is a member of:
- International: ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission).
- European: CEN (European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute).
Implementation and Naming
When DS implements a European or international standard in Denmark, it is reflected in the title with the “DS/” prefix, ensuring that the content is identical to the original but officially adopted for the Danish market.
- DS/EN: Designates a standard adopted from a European standard (CEN or CENELEC).
- DS/ISO: Designates a standard adopted from an ISO international standard.
- DS/EN ISO: Designates a standard that has been adopted by ISO, then by Europe (EN), and finally by Denmark (DS).
Primary Focus Areas
In addition to developing standards through its over 230 standardization committees, Danish Standards provides a range of services:
