Detailed History
ACI was founded in 1904 as the National Association of Cement Users. The organization was created to address the need for reliable information and standards for the proper use of cement, which was a new and rapidly growing building material. In 1913, it changed its name to the American Concrete Institute to reflect its broader mission. ACI’s work became crucial in developing reliable construction practices and ensuring the safety and durability of concrete structures, from bridges and buildings to dams and roads.
