Detailed History
Standards Australia was founded in 1922 as the Australian Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association. Its initial goal was to bring consistency to engineering practices in a time of rapid industrial growth. Over the years, the organization expanded its scope beyond engineering to cover all aspects of a modern economy. It was renamed Standards Australia in 1988 to reflect its role as the national standards body. SA has been instrumental in aligning Australian standards with international ones and is the country’s representative to the ISO and IEC.
